The Bobcat Badge

The first rank that EVERY boy MUST earn before receiving any other award or rank when entering the Cub Scouting Program is the Bobcat Badge.To earn the Bobcat rank the new Cub Scout must do the following:

1. Learn and say the CUB SCOUT OATH.

   1. 1. "On my honor I will do my best

      2. To do my duty to God and my country

      3. and to obey the Scout Law;

      4. To help other people at all times;

      5. To keep myself physically strong,

      6. mentally awake, and morally straight."

2. Learn and say the SCOUT LAW and tell what it means.

• • 1. A Scout is Trustworthy

       1. A Scout tells the truth. He keeps his promises. Honesty is part of his code of conduct. People can depend on him.

    2. A Scout is Loyal

• • • 1. A Scout is true to his family, Scout leaders, friends, school, and nation.

• • 3. A Scout is Helpful

• • • 1. A Scout is concerned about other people. He does things willingly for others without pay or reward.

• • 4. A Scout is Friendly

• • • 1. A Scout is a friend to all. He is a brother to other Scouts. He seeks to understand others. He respects those with ideas and customs other than his own.

• • 5. A Scout is Courteous

• • • 1. A Scout is polite to everyone regardless of age or position. He knows good manners make it easier for people to get along together.

• • 6. A Scout is Kind

• • • 1. A Scout understands there is strength in being gentle. He treats others as he wants to be treated. He does not hurt or kill harmless things without reason.

• • 7. A Scout is Obedient

• • • 1. A Scout follows the rules of his family, school, and troop. He obeys the laws of his community and country. If he thinks these rules and laws are unfair, he tries to have them changed in an orderly manner rather than disobey them.

• • 8. A Scout is Cheerful

• • • 1. A Scout looks for the bright side of things. He cheerfully does tasks that come his way. He tries to make others happy.

• • 9. A Scout is Thrifty

• • • 1. A Scout works to pay his way and to help others. He saves for unforeseen needs. He protects and conserves natural resources. He carefully uses time and property.

• • 10. A Scout is Brave

• • • 1. A Scout can face danger even if he is afraid. He has the courage to stand for what he thinks is right even if others laugh at or threaten him.

• • 11. A Scout is Clean

• • • 1. A Scout keeps his body and mind fit and clean. He goes around with those who believe in living by these same ideals. He helps keep his home and community clean.

• • 12. A Scout is Reverent

• • • 1. A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others.

3. Show the CUB SCOUT SIGN.  Tell what it means.

4. Show the CUB SCOUT HANDSHAKE. Tell what it means.

5. Say the CUB SCOUT MOTTO. A motto is a guiding principle.

6. Give the CUB SCOUT SALUTE.  Tell what it means.

7. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the booklet,

8. How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse.

The above items are the basic information that ALL Cub Scouts must learn, which is why EVERY boy who enters into Cub Scouting MUST earn the Bobcat Badge.  He only needs to complete the course once in his Cub Scout career.
